Basecamp Eatery at Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park, California

Client: Yosemite National Park

Architect: Gould Evans Associates

Photographer: Mark Greenawalt

About the Project:

In 1956, the Food Service Building was constructed at Yosemite Lodge as part of the Mission 66 initiative. The Mission 66 program was initiated by the National Park Service in response to a significant increase in park visitation following World War II. The effort involved a comprehensive, nationwide park improvement program that was to be completed by the 50th anniversary of the agency in 1966. The cafeteria in this building was remodeled in the early 2000s, but it was time again for a facelift for the eatery in 2017 when Gould Evans Associates won the project.

Creative Designs in Lighting provided lighting design concepts and construction drawings, however many of the initial design options were later revised due to value engineering alternatives to meet budgetary restraints.
