Estrella Mountain Ranch Star Tower

Goodyear, Arizona

Architect: Greey|Pickett

Photographer: Mark Greenawalt

About the Project:

At the entry to Estrella Mountain Ranch is a unique hidden gem of Arizona called the Estrella Star Tower. The spiral-shaped structure was designed by local astronomer Steven Kates and the surrounding landscape was designed by Greey Pickett with water feature streams, trees, and native cactus. Visitors can climb the spiral staircase, illuminated with red light only to help eyes adjust to the nighttime sky. The 50-foot climb to the top is rewarded with views of the stars above and the beauty of Estrella Mountain Regional Park. Creative Designs in Lighting specified landscape lighting, facade lighting for stone walls, pedestrian pathway lighting, but the striking feature that draws the most attention is the fiber optic starfield lighting on the tower itself that makes it sparkle like a jewel in the desert.
