About the Project:
STREAM is a public art installation at the Marina Heights campus in Tempe, Arizona. It was completed May 18, 2015 and is made of steel and painted white. The dimensions are 32.81 ft tall by 8.20 ft in diameter. Artist Juanjo Novella states on his website, “This aspect was definitive to choose water as a theme. Now in a fluid upflow. It symbolizes time and the present.”
The lighting design is a series of (7) flush-to-grade fixtures uplighting the outer perimeter and an additional (3) uplighting the interior face of the sculpture. The original design for color changing LED fixtures was value engineered to use static white fixtures. One image shows a purple gel over the interior fixtures to mock up what the color version could look like. The placement of the outer fixtures and their narrow-flood beam spreads were specified to disperse the light through the cutouts for additional shadow play throughout the interior of the sculpture.
